Pipe-tunes is software for optimizing the cutting of bar stock, tubes, and profiles. The program calculates how parts of varying lengths can be cut from existing bars of material to minimize waste. The solution is particularly aimed at companies in the window and door manufacturing and metal fabrication industries, as well as manufacturing facilities that regularly process aluminum profiles, steel tubes, plastic profiles, or similar materials.
Anyone who has to cut numerous parts to different lengths every day knows the challenge: An inefficient layout quickly leads to unnecessary material waste. Especially with expensive materials, even small scraps can add up to significant costs over time. Pipe-tunes helps you make better use of your available material and systematically prepare your cutting process.
The software calculates a suitable cutting plan based on the required part lengths and quantities. It takes into account the available bar length, the cutting width of the saw blade, and, if necessary, a trim cut at the beginning of the bar. You can also specify the size of the scrap pieces that are to be reused or stored.
Pipe-tunes 2.0 offers three methods for calculating cutting plans: Optimization, BestFit, and MAX. While the first two methods quickly provide a cutting plan, MAX evaluates multiple calculation methods and options for material withdrawal from inventory. The best result found is then proposed. In addition, the program displays the theoretically required minimum number of bars. This allows you to assess how well the available material is being utilized.
An important feature of Pipe-tunes 2.0 is the integrated scrap inventory. Not every scrap piece needs to be discarded. Longer sections can be reused in future jobs. The program manages these scrap pieces and gives them priority during the next cutting optimization before scheduling new bars.
After cutting, you confirm the stock items that were actually used. New scrap pieces can be added individually and, if necessary, tagged with a note. You can also set up multiple stock locations, for example, for different materials or profile types. This helps you keep track of usable material scraps and avoid unnecessary re-cuts.
The calculated cutting plans are displayed graphically. You can see which parts are produced from which bar, how much material remains, and which scrap pieces can be returned to inventory. Pipe-tunes groups identical cutting patterns together to keep the output clear and organized.
A printout and an Excel export are available for sharing with production. The output includes, among other things, information on material consumption, as well as stock withdrawals and remaining scraps. Dimensions and quantities can be easily imported from existing Excel spreadsheets. This reduces the effort required to prepare large cutting orders.
Pipe-tunes is suitable for numerous applications involving the processing of linear materials. These include, for example, window and door profiles, aluminum rods, stainless steel tubes, square tubes, and other metal profiles. The software is designed for one-dimensional cutting optimization. Optimization of panels, sheets, or metal plates based on area is not included in the software’s functionality.
Pipe-tunes 2.0 is a locally installed Windows program for the 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. Once the license is activated, a permanent internet connection is not required for the actual cutting calculation. The user interface is available in seven languages, including German and English.
The software is offered as a perpetual license. A USB dongle is no longer required in version 2.0. License activation is performed using a license key; if necessary, an offline procedure can also be used. Updates and support are included for the first year. After that, maintenance can be extended on a voluntary basis.
If you’d like to see how much material you can save in your production process, you can try Pipe-tunes 2.0 for 30 days with full functionality at no cost. Use one of your own cutting orders for this and compare the results with your current workflow. If you have any questions about the application, additional licenses, or its use in your business, the provider is available to offer personalized consultation.
