We are a housing company (managing over 15,000 rental units, among other things) and are looking for an application to facilitate data transactions between our SAP system and SQL Server. This application should ensure that data extractions can be performed independently in the future, in the simplest and most flexible way possible.

We are looking for an application or interface program (toolkit, SAP connector) that enables the interface between the SAP system and the SQL Server to be operated. This program should allow the desired data to be extracted using tables, queries, ABAP reports, and SAP standard extractions. If the data source permits, a delta extraction should also be possible.

The application should support the following minimum requirements:

  • User interface or data cockpit for data querying in SAP
  • Automated and time-based retrieval control
  • Adding timestamps (end of month) to the data for record archiving
  • Bundling of larger data volumes to reduce load on the standard connection
  • Definition of one or more data destinations on SQL Server
  • Cockpit for monitoring transactions

Initial Situation:

We use the SAP ERP system (EHP 6 FOR SAP, ERP 6.0; client version 7.4, patch level 10, externally hosted). To extract data from SAP, we rely on ABAP queries programmed by a third-party provider within the SAP system and on ad-hoc queries via an RFC interface. The data extracts are stored on an SQL Server (currently MS SQL 2008 R2 / in the future SQL 2016 incl. SSiS).

An external SAP ERP system is used for accounting and inventory management. At the local site, we operate MS SQL Server systems for various requirements (data integration from other internal and external source systems, data consolidation and preparation for internal management and reporting, as well as for archiving purposes).

The objective is to optimize data transfer capabilities between the external SAP system and the local SQL Server system. In the future, we want to be able to perform data extractions independently and in the simplest and most flexible manner possible, and store the data on the local SQL Server either automatically (via a scheduler) or, if necessary, through ad-hoc queries.
