We are a medium-sized cable assembly company that supplies industrial customers. We are looking for software to provide a transparent overview of our work processes.

The main task is to document the individual work steps:

  • The company's work sequence starts in the office, where orders and production logs are generated.
  • Next, they go to the warehouse, where the orders are sorted. They are then either packed or sent to the cutting department.
  • In the cutting department, the required cables are cut and then returned to the warehouse to be packed.
  • Regardless of whether the orders are packed directly or go through the intermediate step of cutting, they then go into production.
  • There, they go through several work steps until they are finally checked and packaged.

We need software that documents these work steps and also makes them transparent for our customers (printout that is included with the delivery). We work with a merchandise management system, which also generates the logs for our production. It is also possible for us to generate a barcode here and display it on the log.

The idea was as follows:

  • The log with the barcode goes into the warehouse and each employee has a small card with a personal barcode.
  • This is scanned together with the log. This confirms receipt and documents the work step in the system.
  • Once the order has been completed in the warehouse, it can then be scanned again.
  • The order arrives in production, the employee accepts the order and scans both barcodes again.
  • Once the order has been processed, it is scanned again and sent for inspection.
  • The same procedure would be followed until the order is packed and ready for shipping.
  • During shipping, the log with all the recorded data can be printed out from the system and attached to the shipment to the customer.

The second point is order organization. In addition to documenting the work steps, we also need an overview of the work progress of the individual orders. Ideally, a list of all current orders and their last scan point with name and department is displayed.

Up to eight software workstations are planned.
