Incremental Backup

What is meant by Incremental Backup?

An "Incremental Backup" is a type of backup where only the data that has changed since the last backup is backed up, regardless of whether it was a full backup or an incremental backup. So, compared to a full backup, only the new or modified data is backed up, resulting in smaller backup files and shorter backup times. Incremental backups allow for efficient use of storage space and faster data backup, but they may be slower to restore compared to Differential Backups.

Typical features of software in the "Incremental Backup" domain include:

  1. Selective Data Backup: The software allows for the selection of specific files, folders, or systems for incremental backup to only back up the needed data.

  2. Scheduling: The software enables scheduling of incremental backup jobs at specified times or intervals to ensure that backups are created regularly.

  3. Automation: The software provides features for automating incremental backup jobs to reduce manual intervention and ensure that backups are performed regularly and reliably.

  4. Storage Optimization: The software optimizes storage space consumption by backing up only the new or modified data since the last backup, leading to efficient use of storage space.
