The Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce recently congratulated Jet-Software on its 40th anniversary, as well as its managing director Amadeus Thomas (right), emphasising the particular significance of this rare, long-standing experience in enterprise IT.
Since 1986, JET-Software has been developing proven solutions for data management and targeted data protection. The company’s origins lie in the development of specialised software for mainframes – initially for the BS2000 operating system from the then manufacturer Siemens, as well as for z/OS (formerly MVS or OS/390) from IBM. To this day, the company’s proprietary software is widely used in the modern mainframe environment of its partner Fujitsu.
Whilst mainframes continue to form the backbone for processing billions of transactions worldwide every day, open systems have grown increasingly important and have been continuously developed. In 1993, JET-Software therefore entered into a strategic partnership with IRI Inc. to expand its product portfolio to include UNIX, Linux and Windows. Many modern corporate environments feature hybrid structures: mainframes handle business-critical core processes, whilst open systems provide applications, interfaces and digital services. Both approaches complement one another and remain relevant despite technological changes.
Following its foundation, JET-Software was initially based in Dieburg for several years. In 1996, co-founder Mike Kelly relocated the company’s headquarters to its current location in Babenhausen. After successfully completing his dual study programme, his grandson Amadeus Thomas also joined the management team. In this way, JET-Software developed into a wholly privately owned family business.
Its clients include German federal and state authorities, such as those responsible for number plate administration in the north and for tax calculations across the whole of Germany, as well as major banks and the world’s oldest private bank, social, church and private insurance companies, and internationally renowned large enterprises from sectors such as the automotive industry, watchmaking, lighting and transport, including major airlines.
