Outdated or multi-byte data types often pose a significant obstacle in legacy data migration projects. Many general-purpose data conversion tools reach their limits when specific, single-byte character sets – deeply embedded in core systems – need to be processed.
If a migration solution cannot natively distinguish and correctly convert complex character sets such as LATIN2, Cyrillic or Arabic – or, for example, cannot process ASCII data in EBCDIC sequences – ‘unsupported’ errors and opaque system states quickly arise.
