Retrospect Disk-to-Disk is the first backup software designed to perform business-class backups to 1394 or USB2 external hard drives, which can easily be unplugged and rotated to a safe offsite location for disaster recovery purposes. Now businesses whose backups fit onto one or more external hard drives have a cost-effective and easy-to-manage alternative to tape drives and autoloaders. Designed for use in small and midsize businesses and workgroups of large enterprises, Retrospect Disk-to-Disk protects a single Microsoft Windows server, and can be extended with client licenses that back up networked desktop and notebook computers as well.

It backs up Windows file and application servers, including SQL Server and Exchange Server, as well as desktops and notebooks. This Retrospect edition supports CD/DVD media, but does not back up to tape.
