CodeGuide 7.0
With the release of CodeGuide 7.0 Omnicore continues its dedication to
provide software developers with one of the best Java programming tools on the
market.
Conventional debuggers allow the developer to analyze the flow of a
program by slowing execution speed down to single lines at a time. The problem
with this approach is that the developer has to know beforehand where and when
the bug is about to appear. With back-in-time debugging the developer can go
back after the fact and investigate what the program did before the bug
manifested itself.
Features
- Full support for Java 1.5
CodeGuide 7.0 already supports all
new language features of the Java 2 SDK 1.5. Those new features consist of
support for generic types (JSR 14), metadata (JSR 175) and numerous language
extensions (JSR 201): an enhanced for loop, enums, autoboxing of primitive
types, static imports and varargs.
- Unique back-in-time debugger
CodeGuide 7 contains a new
back-in-time debugger which offers a host of new ways to examine a running
application while retaining common debugging metaphors.
Imagine using a
debugger to step through some code looking for a bug. Suddenly you find out
that the bug must have been caused by a method invocation you just stepped
over. To investigate the bug you would need to go back in time and step into
the method. Conventional debuggers do not allow that. CodeGuide 7 does. You can
step back, step into the method and investigate what exactly caused the
problem. Another example: An exception is thrown and you want to find out what
caused it. With CodeGuide 7 you set an exception breakpoint and when the
exception is thrown you can use the debugger to go back in time and find out
what caused the exception.
- Incremental on-the-fly compiler
CodeGuide 7 contains a unique
on-the-fly compiler. Whenever Java code is edited CodeGuide will compile this
code and check it for errors in the background. In contrast to other tools
CodeGuide does not only check the currently edited file but all other files in
the project which depend on the edited file as well. If a change affects many
files the compilation progress is shown in the status bar. Background
compilation is tuned to not affect GUI responsiveness.
- On-the-fly reachability and code coverage analysis
CodeGuide
features a unique on-the-fly project-wide reachability analysis. This features
allows the developer to easily spot code that is never executed. This is not
only useful for cleanup of dead code but also informs the programmer of a
potential error conditions and assists the programmer during a code
restructuring. While other tools have been developed which accomplish a similar
task CodeGuide is the first IDE where this feature is seamlessly integrated and
which makes the information graphically available on-the-fly.
