NetWays/ISDN

NetWAYS/ISDN integrates
remote PCs in local-area networks over ISDN. Telecommuters can use any
TCP/IP or IPX/SPX-based network software, such as terminal emulation,
client-server applications, Internet browsers or file and print servers.
ISDN remote access client
NetWAYS/ISDN for PCs and notebooks is the professional ISDN solution for
access to the Internet or a remote LAN. NetWAYS/ISDN offers high performance in
the following areas: Connecting branch offices, connecting telecommuters,
connecting field employees and remote administration NetWAYS/ISDN lets you use
classic LAN applications over ISDN: client/server applications for IBM host
connectivity, terminal emulation, data-base applications, SAP R/3 or e-mail.
With the growing demand for mobile (wireless) remote access-for database
transactions during a visit to the customer, for example the ISDN connection is
extended at the client end over the GSM digital cellular network.
Cost-effective remote working
NetWAYS/ISDN uses proven techniques optimized for ISDN and Mobile ISDN (GSM) to
cut connection costs to the bare minimum. This ensures the most cost-effective
remote access possible. By means of dynamic call set-up and clear-down (Short
Hold Mode), for example, the ISDN connection is kept physically open and costs
are incurred only for the time in which user data is actually transferred.
NetWAYS/ISDN even detects the charge rate for the current time of day
automatically, an especially economical feature due to the complex rate
schedules of ISDN operators. Furthermore, NetWAYS/ISDN and AVM's remote access
servers suppress the network operating system's overhead data traffic on the
ISDN link using protocol filtering and spoofing techniques tested and refined
in actual practice. NetWAYS/ISDN also supports call-back requests over the D
channel, to assign all connection costs to the server end, for example.
Open standards for investment security
As an NDIS/CAPI 2.0 interface, NetWAYS/ISDN maps the AVM ISDN-Controller in the
system as an Ethernet network adapter. This means that all TCP/IP and
IPX/SPX-based applications can be used transparently over ISDN. The support for
open ISDN remote access standards using PPP over ISDN guarantees maximum
interoperability, which means a long service life.
High performance and powerful features
ISDN provides enough bandwidth for today's client/server applications. Through
on-the-fly compression and header compression, NetWAYS/ISDN achieves a further
increase in performance. Depending on the user data, rates of up to hundreds of
kbit/s per user are attainable. For applications with higher bandwidth demands,
two B channels can be bundled for the LAN connection - even dynamically as a
function of the momentary data load.
Security for server and client
AVM products also incorporate effective security measures against unauthorized
LAN access. Even before servers and remote LAN clients can exchange network
protocol packets, each end authenticates the other. NetWAYS/ISDN supports
authentication in many ways: calling line identification (CLI) over the ISDN
signaling channel before answering a call; password checks (such as PAP or
CHAP); and security call-back.
Simple and covenient operation
NetWAYS/ISDN can set up a network connection automatically when the PC is
started up, without any user input. Or the software may be operated
interactively through a completely intuitive user interface. Simple
installation and configuration procedures, supported by automatic system
detection, add to the ease of use, as does the option of defining different
location and hardware profiles in mobile Windows 95/98 or Windows NT computers.
And administrators will appreciate the unattended installation support. An API
(application programming interface) is also incorporated for customizing
applications.
