The utilization of notebooks as information medium has become common practice in many companies. This new mobility holds many risks. Sensitive information can be misused. Passwords are often stored on the hard disk and thus do not provide sufficient protection. Worldwide, notebooks worth more than one billion Euros are stolen every year. The value of the stolen information, however, by far exceeds the value of the hardware.
Every organization therefore needs security solutions that guarantee the protection of the data and the security of the information circulating within the organization and its environment. SafeGuard Easy closes security gaps by encrypting the hard disk and securely authenticating the user before the operating system is started (pre-boot authentication). Neither passwords nor keys are stored on the PC's hard disk. An attacker does not have a chance to find out about these information.
SafeGuard Easy supports the operating systems OS/2, MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

• Easy utilization
  SafeGuard Easy is easy to install and works almost invisibly for the user after login. The used encryption algorithms are high-perfomance algorithms, work processes can therefore be executed without delay.

  SafeGuard Easy supports the realization of organization-wide security guidelines. Administrators can install the security software throughout the company by means of configuration files - easily and without involvement of the users.
  SafeGuard Easy defines user-specific rights (as e.g. for the deactivation of floppy disk encryption).

  SafeGuard Easy encrypts the hard disk completely or partially - independently of the used file system (e.g. NTFS, FAT etc). An attacker can by no means gain access to the stored data, even not if he removes or copies the hard disk.
  Unauthorized persons cannot access the system (pre-boot authentication). PBA is the authentication of the PC user before the boot process begins (before loading the operation system) and ensures high security because the process cannot be manipulated.

  The utilization of universally recognized strong algorithms (e.g. IDEA 128 bit, BLOWFISH 256 bit) guarantees the reliable protection of sensitive information.
  SafeGuard Easy supports the secure exchange of data between different departments or company divisions by means of configurable encryption of data carriers (e.g. floppy disks, Zip etc.).

  SafeGuard Easy provides access to encrypted data carriers of employees whenever necessary, e.g. after employees have left the company.
  If due to having entered the incorrect password an employee blocks his notebook, he can generate a new password by means of a secure challenge/response procedure.

  SafeGuard Easy is worldwide the first security product for Windows NT that was certified according to the Common Criteria by the evaluation level EAL3.
  The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CC) are the criteria harmonized between the US (Orange Book, TCSEC), Canada (CTCPEC) and Europe (ITSEC) that apply to the evaluation and certification of the security of IT systems.
  The certification documents the evaluation of quality and security of the implementation by an independent institution.

Application examples

• Protection of data in case of theft
  Theft of notebooks has dramatically increased over the last years. With SafeGuard Easy access to stored information is effectively prevented. As the hard disk is encrypted sector by sector, the information cannot be read by unauthorized persons - not even when hard disk tools are used.
• Protection against manipulation of the operating system
  Passwords are often stored locally by the operating system and not protected sufficiently. With hacker tools available on the Internet, attackers can bypass the access protection of NTFS (file system of Windows NT) and steal data with a system floppy disk after booting.
  SafeGuard Easy completely encrypts hard disks and file systems - with the result that hacker tools do not supply attackers with usable information.
