For several years now, CHiEF has been successfully deployed by many companies for monitoring and automation of all host and server systems (z/OS, MVS, OS/390, VM/VSE, OS/400, BS2000, OSD, UNIX, LINUX, WIN NT/2000/XP, NETWARE, VAX, etc.), individual application programs, Internet-based systems (WEB shops, WEB servers, WEB pages and proxies, firewalls), SAP systems, SNMP-based systems (hardware and software) and if required, for alerting the concerned employees. In addition, individual system states, exception and failure messages, response time, etc. can be stored in databases and then conveniently analyzed using the CHiEF Analyser.
Overall Functionality of CHiEF
CHiEF interacts with the systems that are being monitored just like a competent user. All commands, transactions, programs, etc. of the systems are available. This, in turn, enables quick understanding of the CHiEF application, short training and implementation time, generally about 2 days and a high level of acceptance by the employees.
Using the easy to learn CHiEF scripting language, the users themselves decide, which events are to be automated or which of them are to trigger alerts.
Generally, the convenient alerts are person, team or shift oriented with acknowledgement by phone (incl. voice output via individual *.wav files or direct text-to-speech), mobile phones, SMS, Cityruf, email, Netmessage, sound card, etc. All are, of course, date/time dependent with different escalation levels.
For different service groups the database-oriented Group Service Plan (GSP) with rights-based management of persons, dates, etc. can also be used.
The communication between CHiEF and the systems that are to be monitored takes place agent-less via TCP/IP.
Complete database functionality allows storing of individual information in SQL databases and analysis by the CHiEF Analyser InfoZoom or by any existing reporting tools at a later date.
Safety features like CHiEF Mirroring and dynamic Dial-out Management enable uninterrupted system management even during failure of the CHiEF's hardware and software.
